Course Description: Even though psychoanalysis started as a clinical method intended exclusively for the observation, analysis, and treatment of the individual, it was not long before the scope of the psychoanalytic theory went beyond and above the individual psyche to include not only the family and the circle of significant others, but indeed the broader social, political, linguistic, and even historical context within which the individual exists and functions. This seminar is focused on how psychoanalytic theory has evolved to contribute to our understanding of culture, cultural processes, and dynamics.
